Tourism Workforce Needs Improvement

Low job satisfaction and high bullying rates plague New Zealand's tourism industry.

New data released by Tourism and Hospitality Minister Matt Doocey shows that despite some positive trends, the workforce requires significant improvements to thrive. According to the survey results, 91% of respondents are focused on being productive in their jobs, but low job satisfaction and a lack of progress in addressing bullying and harassment are major concerns.

Minister Doocey welcomed the data, stating that it will inform discussions with hospitality leaders at the upcoming Hospitality Summit at Parliament. He highlighted the need for stronger training opportunities and improved working conditions to support the growth of New Zealand's international tourism industry. The Minister emphasized the importance of safe, welcoming, and supportive workplaces in the sector.

The Workforce Survey results are available online, providing insight into the current state of the hospitality and tourism workforce. As the industry continues to recover, addressing these key issues will be crucial for its long-term success.
