Foreign Ministers meet to accelerate partnership progress.
New Zealand Foreign Minister Winston Peters and his Thai counterpart, Minister Maris Sangiampongsa, have agreed to fast-track their countries' relationship upgrade to a 'Strategic Partnership'. The ambitious timeline aims for completion by 2026.
The two ministers adopted a 'Roadmap to the New Zealand-Thailand Strategic Partnership', outlining areas of cooperation that will deliver greater prosperity and security for both nations. This includes deepening collaboration in trade, climate change, and other key sectors.
In Auckland today, Mr Peters expressed his country's great ambitions for the partnership, citing significant opportunities for mutual benefit. Minister Sangiampongsa will also meet with Trade Minister Todd McClay and Climate Change Minister Simon Watts while in New Zealand. The upgrade is set to be finalized within the next 18 months.
The development marks a significant step forward in strengthening ties between New Zealand and Thailand, with both nations working towards a more cooperative future.
