TEC Appoints New Members to Its Board

Penny Simmonds and Dr Shane Reti announce appointments.

The Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) has appointed two new members to its board: Mr Robin Hapi CNZM and Mrs Sharon McGuire. They will serve until 31 October 2027, replacing outgoing member Vivien Sutherland Bridgwater MNZM.

Penny Simmonds, Vocational Education Minister, highlighted Mr Hapi's extensive experience in education and leadership roles across various boards. He possesses commercial expertise, a te ao Māori perspective, and knowledge of the tertiary education system. Ms Simmonds also commended Mrs McGuire's commercial background and governance experience, emphasizing her understanding of the polytechnic sector.

Dr Shane Reti, Universities Minister, noted that TEC invests over $3.3 billion annually in tertiary education and provides quality career services for New Zealanders. The commission leads the Government's relationship with the tertiary education sector, delivering essential skills and knowledge to equip citizens for success.
