Auckland residents will benefit from a cutting-edge cancer treatment machine.
The Regional Cancer and Blood Service at Auckland City Hospital now boasts a new MV5 linear accelerator (LINAC), which was officially opened today. The LINAC targets cancer tumours with precision, enabling clinicians to deliver better results for patients. Health Minister Dr Shane Reti stated that this state-of-the-art machine will provide improved treatment for around 30-40 individuals daily.
The LINAC is part of a $11.7 million project funded by the Health Capital Envelope, aimed at updating existing machines in six cancer centres across New Zealand. This particular installation is the second of its kind and represents a significant step towards delivering world-class cancer care. The Government's focus on fast and high-quality treatment for Kiwis has led to increased investment in medical technology and treatments.
The new LINAC is expected to contribute significantly to improved patient outcomes, providing better image definition that minimises radiation exposure to healthy tissue. This development comes as part of the Government's broader efforts to drive faster cancer treatment through targeted investments in healthcare infrastructure and medicine delivery systems.
