Auckland MP demands action from Mayor.
Auckland Central MP Chlöe Swarbrick has written an urgent letter to Mayor Wayne Brown calling for an end to the unnecessary delays in restoring the historic St James Theatre. The project has been stalled despite years of campaigning and support from thousands of Aucklanders and multiple governments.
The Green Co-Leader claims that bureaucratic exercises have created immense delay, eroding the value of the funding allocated for the project and pushing back construction times. Swarbrick argues that sufficient funds have already been secured and that Mayor Brown's request for new papers is an invented exercise in bureaucracy.
In her letter, Chlöe Swarbrick has formally asked the Mayor to bring his desired papers to Auckland Council's Governing Body meeting on 12th December, urging him to end the delays and get the project underway. She emphasizes that there has been a lack of action due to bureaucratic hurdles rather than a lack of support for the project.
The fate of the St James Theatre restoration now rests with Mayor Brown and his council officials as they consider Swarbrick's demands.
