Sporting History Made in New Zealand

Five national teams achieve historic wins over the weekend.

Sport & Recreation Minister Chris Bishop hailed an "epic sporting weekend" for New Zealand after five national teams achieved historic wins. The celebrations started at 1am Sunday morning with Emirates Team New Zealand winning the America's Cup, followed by victories from the Black Caps in their first test against India, the Silver Ferns in the Constellation Cup, the Paddle Ferns in the Canoe Polo World Cup, and the White Ferns in the women's T20 World Cup final.

The wins showcased New Zealand's sporting prowess, with Team New Zealand securing a three-peat victory for the first time in over 30 years. The Black Caps' win was their third against India in India ever, while the Silver Ferns achieved their highest score against the Diamonds in regular time. The Paddle Ferns took home silverware from the Canoe Polo World Cup, and the White Ferns secured their first World Cup since 2000.

Minister Bishop praised the teams for their remarkable achievements, saying that the weekend would go down in New Zealand's sporting history.
