Road Safety Campaign for Easter

Road Safety Campaign for Easter

Transport Minister Chris Bishop urges drivers to prioritize road safety over the long weekend.

Transport Minister Chris Bishop is urging all New Zealanders to exercise caution while driving this Easter, as more people are expected to be on the roads. In a statement, Mr Bishop emphasized the importance of making safe choices when traveling, particularly in areas affected by Cyclone Tam. He reminded drivers to check road and weather conditions before embarking on their journey, reduce speed in wet conditions, and avoid distractions such as cell phones.

As part of the Easter safety campaign, police will conduct increased breath testing, speed monitoring, and other driving behavior checks nationwide. The Transport Minister warned that there is a zero-tolerance approach to reckless driving, urging drivers to think carefully before getting behind the wheel while intoxicated or fatigued. By prioritizing road safety, Mr Bishop hopes to ensure everyone can enjoy this Easter with their loved ones without incident.
