Over 300 Kiwis report red tape issues in first week.
Regulation Minister David Seymour has announced that the new Red Tape tipline has received over 300 reports of red tape issues in its first week. The majority of these reports come from the building and construction sector, with consenting processes being a major point of contention.
Reports have also been submitted from other sectors, including education and traffic management. One common issue reported is the "sea of road cones" that contribute to frustrating and potentially unnecessary slowdowns and detours in traffic management.
The Ministry for Regulation review team is busy reviewing these reports and will provide feedback to help identify bad regulation that needs to be removed, prioritize future regulatory reviews, and suggest legislation that needs change. Minister Seymour has emphasized the importance of addressing red tape issues to restore New Zealand's "can do" attitude and improve productivity.
The public can continue to report red tape issues on the tipline website.
