Red Tape Tipline Now Live Online

New platform allows public submissions on regulations affecting them.

The Ministry for Regulation's Red Tape Tipline has gone live, allowing New Zealanders to make online submissions about regulations that impact their lives. Minister for Regulation David Seymour announced the launch, stating it will help identify and address unnecessary regulatory burdens. According to an NZIER study from 2015, regulatory compliance costs businesses $5 billion annually.

Seymour highlighted the need for public input, saying "If there's red tape in your industry that needs cutting, we want to know about it." The Tipline is expected to help flush out bad regulations, prioritize future reviews, and identify legislation requiring change. By gathering feedback, the Ministry aims to restore New Zealand's "can-do" attitude and reduce unnecessary costs on businesses and workers.
