RealMe Verification Eases Business Processes

RealMe Verification Eases Business Processes

The Government simplifies identity verification process.

The New Zealand Government is streamlining the approval process for businesses to use the RealMe Identity Verification Service, making it easier for companies to verify staff and customer identities. According to Minister of Internal Affairs Brooke van Velden, this change will save time and money for both individuals and organisations, particularly those required to meet anti-money laundering requirements.

Currently, organisations wanting to use RealMe had to be approved by Cabinet in a lengthy process. The simplified process will see businesses automatically granted access if they meet the necessary requirements, such as compliance with the Privacy Act. This change is being made through the Internal Affairs Regulatory Systems Amendment Bill, which will be introduced to Parliament later this year.

RealMe has been used by over 1.5 million New Zealanders for various purposes, including opening bank accounts and accessing core Government services. With this new development, more private sector organisations are expected to adopt the service, offering greater convenience for individuals and businesses alike.
