Podiatry Clinic Launched in Wairoa

Podiatry Clinic Launched in Wairoa

A new monthly podiatry clinic has been launched in Wairoa.

Health Minister Simeon Brown announced the launch, stating that Health New Zealand has secured a podiatrist to provide services until June. The podiatrist specializes in diabetes and will hold monthly clinics at Queen St Practice with a nurse's assistance. This initiative is funded by Health NZ and aims to improve healthcare access for the Wairoa community.

The clinic is a key part of addressing long-term conditions, preventing illnesses, and treating diseases early, according to Mr Brown. He emphasized that keeping people well reduces hospital pressure and improves their quality of life. The estimated 400-600 people in the area with diabetes will benefit from having this service on their doorstep.

The six-month initiative will be reviewed in June, and further engagement with the community will continue throughout the year. Investments like this are essential for ensuring all New Zealanders can access timely and quality healthcare, made possible by the Government's record investment of $16.8 billion in health in Budget 2024.
