Chris Seed appointed to lead New Zealand's interests.
Former Secretary of Foreign Affairs and Trade Chris Seed will travel to London late next week to assume the role of New Zealand's Acting High Commissioner. Mr Seed has served in senior diplomatic positions, including High Commissioner to Canberra and Port Moresby. He replaces outgoing High Commissioner Phil Goff, who has been removed from the position due to his recent comments.
Foreign Minister Winston Peters acknowledged Mr Goff's significant contributions to New Zealand's interests over a long period of time. However, Mr Peters stated that Mr Goff's comments made his position as High Commissioner untenable. The process for confirming a new High Commissioner continues, with an announcement expected once approval has been received from the UK Government.
Mr Goff is scheduled to depart London this weekend. In a statement, Minister Peters expressed appreciation for Mr Goff's dedication and service to New Zealand people, wishing him well in his future endeavors.
