Pay Gap Calculator Launched

Pay Gap Calculator Launched

Nicola Grigg launches online calculator to tackle pay gap.

The Minister for Women, Nicola Grigg, launched an online pay gap calculator today (13 November 2024) to help New Zealand businesses address the persistent gender pay gap. According to Ms Grigg, women earn on average 8.2 per cent less than men, a figure that has barely changed since 2017.

The tool, developed in collaboration with various organizations and businesses, includes a pay gap calculator, a downloadable action plan, and guidance material to support users. Businesses can use the toolkit to calculate their pay gaps and access resources to address them.

Ms Grigg emphasized the importance of understanding and addressing pay gaps, citing benefits such as increased productivity. She encouraged all businesses to be courageous and calculate their gaps, rather than casting judgment on those with wider disparities.

The launch marks a significant step towards reducing the stubborn 8.2 per cent pay gap in New Zealand, which has been fluctuating over the past decade. The calculator is now live on the Ministry for Women's website, accessible at www.women.govt.nz/gpgtoolkit.
