Pacific Language Week Celebrations Expand

Pacific languages continue to shine in Aotearoa's celebrations.

The Ministry for Pacific Peoples has announced exciting updates for next year's Pacific language week series, which will see Bislama, the national language of Vanuatu, included for the first time.

This year's events drew an impressive response from thousands of New Zealanders who participated in cultural performances, storytelling sessions and social media campaigns viewed over 3 million times. According to Minister Dr Shane Reti, this highlights the powerful role languages play in connecting communities.

The Ministry is committed to preserving Pacific cultures for future generations by making learning materials, online challenges and tutorials available throughout the year. The inclusion of Bislama will bring the total number of language weeks up to 12 this year and reinforces the importance of language in Pacific communities.

Minister Reti has confirmed the dates for next year's celebrations ahead of time, demonstrating his commitment to preserving Pacific cultures. All New Zealanders are invited to participate and engage with the rich cultural heritage of Aotearoa's Pacific languages.
