A high-level parliamentary delegation has strengthened bonds with Pacific nations.

New Zealand's Deputy Prime Minister Winston Peters said the cross-party group visited Tonga, Hawaii, Fiji, and Vanuatu over the past week. The mission aimed to understand regional priorities and identify areas where New Zealand can contribute to development.

Minister of Pacific Peoples, Science & Innovation Shane Reti stressed that higher education drives prosperity and fosters understanding in tumultuous times. Climate Change Minister Simon Watts highlighted the vulnerability of Pacific nations to climate change impacts and pledged to collaborate on energy security.

Courts Minister Nicole McKee noted the delegation's productive engagement with a broad range of Pacific counterparts. The visit has helped foster new relationships and reconnect with established partners, benefiting both New Zealand and Pacific nations.

The 10-member delegation included leaders from across Parliament, returning to New Zealand today after their week-long mission. Their efforts aim to enhance cooperation between New Zealand and the Pacific region amidst challenging times.
