Government commits to responsible artificial intelligence use.
The New Zealand Government has joined the UK's Bletchley Declaration on Artificial Intelligence (AI) Safety, affirming its commitment to responsible AI use. Minister of Science, Innovation and Technology Judith Collins says AI can be a game-changer for New Zealand if used responsibly.
According to Ms Collins, the declaration aligns with New Zealand's existing focus on safe AI use, as outlined in the Seoul Ministerial Statement for Advancing AI Safety and the OECD's AI Principles. The Government will consult publicly next year on a national AI strategy to encourage greater AI adoption.
To achieve this goal, the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment is working on policy changes, while the Department of Internal Affairs' Government Chief Digital Officer is leading efforts to support public sector agencies in safely using AI for efficiency improvements and service delivery enhancements.
