New Waitangi Tribunal Members Appointed

Two new members and one reappointment to the Waitangi Tribunal announced.

Māori Development Minister Tama Potaka has confirmed the appointment of two new members, Hon Richard Prebble and Ken Williamson, and the reappointment of Kevin Prime to the Waitangi Tribunal.

The appointed members bring a range of expertise to the tribunal. Mr Prebble is a former Cabinet Minister who has provided pro bono advice to Māori trusts and iwi on various issues since leaving parliament. Mr Williamson is an experienced practitioner in risk prevention, management, and disaster management.

Kevin Prime, a current member of several inquiries including the Constitutional Kaupapa Inquiry (Wai 3300), has been reappointed for his second term. According to Minister Potaka, these appointments will support the progress of the Treaty-based Crown-Māori relationship by providing a forum to hear and report Māori Treaty claims in a timely manner.

The appointments aim to ensure the tribunal continues to provide effective services through the delivery of better public services.
