New Trade System Streamlines Export Process

Modernisation of New Zealand's trade certification benefits $33 billion in exports.

Food Safety Minister Andrew Hoggard has announced the successful launch of a new trade certification system, designed to facilitate export growth and adapt to changing market requirements. The modernised system replaces six legacy systems and provides exporters with a single, integrated, and digital process.

The new system is part of the government's efforts to ensure New Zealand's top products continue to be in demand globally. It aims to make selling Kiwi exports more reliable and adaptable for the future. Wine exports were the first to go live this week, enabling them to benefit from the recent European Union Free Trade agreement.

Certification for other products such as plant and animal products (including dairy) is scheduled for next year. Ministry for Primary Industries officials have worked closely with wine exporters to ensure a smooth transition into the new system without disrupting their operations.

The rollout of the new trade certification system will help future-proof New Zealand's export process, benefiting all exporters and associated businesses. More information about the rollout can be found on the Ministry for Primary Industries website.
