Four new members have been appointed.
Sport and Recreation Minister Chris Bishop announced the appointments to the board of Sport New Zealand (Sport NZ) on December 13. The new members bring strong governance experience from various sectors, including community, sports, and recreation. They will join existing chair Raewyn Lovett and deputy chair Duane Kale in leading the organisation.
The new appointees include Megan Campbell, John Fiso, Kathryn Irving, and Ken Laban. Campbell is an experienced board member with a background in governance in sport, health, and education. Fiso has extensive experience in the education sector and was recognised for his services to Education, Sport, and the Pacific Community. Irving brings commercial sustainability expertise from her work in sports organisations, including the New Zealand Olympic Committee. Laban is a well-respected rugby league coach and player with governance experience in local government.
Their appointments aim to provide strong organisational leadership to Sport NZ, enabling it to invest government funds into sporting organisations across New Zealand and promote physical activity as a means of staying healthy. The new board members will help develop national policies and strategies for active recreation and sport.
