Two new members join Charities Registration Board.
The New Zealand government has appointed Roger Holmes Miller and Tarita Hutchinson to the Charities Registration Board, following an amendment to the Charities Act 2005 that increased the number of board members from three to five. Community and Voluntary Sector Minister Louise Upston welcomed the appointments, stating they will strengthen the board's capacity to make balanced decisions.
Mr Miller, a barrister and solicitor with extensive governance experience, previously served on the Board as Chair from 2012 to 2021. He brings expertise in charitable and philanthropic sectors. Ms Hutchinson is an experienced Trustee and Fiduciary with significant legal and regulatory experience in administering trusts, foundations, and other philanthropic entities.
The Charities Registration Board oversees over 28,000 registered charities in New Zealand, responsible for decisions on registration and deregistration. The appointments take effect immediately, as Minister Upston looks forward to working with the new members.
