National Fails Climate Action Test

Labour Leader Chris Hipkins says National has given up on climate action after a year in government.

Labour's Leader accused the party of undoing years of progress to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and preparing for a climate-resilient future. National scrapped $3 billion in climate-related work, whittled down Warmer Kiwi Homes, ended the Climate Emergency Response Fund, and reversed the ban on oil and gas exploration. The Government also failed to meet its goal of doubling renewable energy.

The Climate Change Commission has sounded the alarm over the Government's policies, warning that New Zealand is at risk of missing its climate goals. Labour Leader Chris Hipkins called for National to listen to climate experts and take action on climate change that goes beyond "hot air."
