NZ Leaders Head to Samoa for Talks

New Zealand's Prime Minister and Foreign Minister set off.

Prime Minister Christopher Luxon, accompanied by Foreign Minister Winston Peters, is among world leaders attending the 56-nation Commonwealth meeting in Apia, Samoa. This two-yearly event marks a significant opportunity for the Pacific region to be profiled globally.

According to Mr Luxon, "CHOGM is a fantastic opportunity to connect with other Commonwealth leaders," as they navigate uncertain geopolitical times. He emphasizes the importance of meeting face-to-face to address global challenges and become more resilient. New Zealand will be represented by approximately 460 personnel, including Defence forces, Police, medical specialists, and equipment.

Foreign Minister Winston Peters highlights this year's CHOGM as a platform for smaller countries in the Pacific region. "We hope that Samoa's hosting this year will put the Pacific region and its specific concerns at the forefront of delegates' minds," he says. The two-day meeting is expected to address pressing regional issues.
