Children's Minister Karen Chhour has addressed concerns over the treatment of young people at Korowai Manaaki after questions were raised in Parliament.
The Minister stated that claims of a lack of food and fresh air access for residents are false. She clarified that only those who did not participate in an incident on the roof, which caused damage, were denied time outdoors while staff cleaned up.
Chhour emphasized that the young people involved did not make any requests or demands to Oranga Tamariki staff during the incident. Despite this, she acknowledged their actions should be taken seriously and consequences will follow for those responsible.
