560 young people in Rotorua set to receive mental health support.
Mental Health Minister Matt Doocey has announced new funding for the Rotorua Community Youth Centre Trust, which will enable them to expand their team and scale up services supporting 560 additional young people. The Mental Health Innovation Fund provides $10 million over two years to support non-government organisations (NGOs) and community providers.
The Rotorua Community Youth Centre Trust provides free mental health and social services to young people in the area. This new funding is part of the Government's commitment to investing in grassroots initiatives that deliver mental health and addiction support. The Mental Health Innovation Fund was established to provide additional funding to organisations scaling up existing projects or initiatives aimed at improving mental health outcomes.
According to Minister Doocey, other successful recipients of the fund include Youthline, the Sir John Kirwan Foundation, MATES in Construction, the Mental Health Foundation, and Wellington City Mission. The next round of funding for the Innovation Fund is expected to open in mid-2024, providing another opportunity for organisations to seek additional support.
