Government launches $5 million initiative for wellbeing campaigns.
Mental Health Minister Matt Doocey announced today that applications are now open for the $5 million Mental Health Promotion Fund, a government-backed initiative aimed at promoting mental wellbeing through various campaigns. The fund is part of the government's efforts to shift its focus towards prevention and early intervention in mental health.
At the Digital Mental Health Summit in Parliament, Mr Doocey emphasized the importance of mental health promotion in empowering people to look after their own wellbeing and support others. He also highlighted the government's vision for a comprehensive mental health continuum that begins with mental health promotion.
The funding is open to all organisations, including non-governmental ones, and will provide support for initiatives that increase awareness and teach resilience skills. The application process is now open until February 10, 2025, with contracts expected to be in place by April next year.
This announcement is part of the government's ongoing efforts to improve mental wellbeing among New Zealanders, following several initiatives launched in the last twelve months.
