Mental Health Facility Opens in Christchurch

A state-of-the-art facility for young New Zealanders.

Mental Health Minister Matt Doocey has officially opened Kahurangi, a significant addition to Canterbury's Child, Adolescent, and Family Mental Health Services. The outpatient facility is designed with the needs of local youth and their families in mind, featuring modern spaces that support contemporary clinical practice.

Kahurangi, meaning "blue skies" and symbolizing hope, was gifted its name by local iwi. The facility brings together several teams from different locations under one site on the Hillmorton Campus, allowing for streamlined care pathways and improved continuity of care for families facing complex mental health challenges.

The Government's focus on increasing access to mental health support and upgrading infrastructure is crucial in delivering modern models of care. This development is part of broader redevelopment on the Hillmorton Campus, with further upgrades planned for adult facilities.
