New Zealand and India to strengthen ties.
Prime Minister Christopher Luxon and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi have concluded a productive visit to New Delhi, announcing significant steps towards deeper cooperation between their two nations. The pair released a joint statement outlining plans for increased collaboration across various sectors, including defence, trade, science, and technology.
According to Mr Luxon, the new Defence Cooperation Arrangement will facilitate closer ties between their respective defence forces and open up new areas of collaboration. The joint statement also highlighted opportunities for enhanced people-to-people links and sporting exchanges.
In addition to the Defence Arrangement, New Zealand will be increasing its diplomatic presence in India with additional roles established in New Delhi and Mumbai. This move aims to further promote New Zealand's profile and interests on the ground.
During his visit, Prime Minister Luxon also met with Indian President Droupadi Murmu and delivered an address as Chief Guest at the Raisina Dialogue, a premier defence and security conference.
