Luxon and Marape Strengthen Partnership

New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon meets with Papua New Guinea counterpart.

New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon met with Papua New Guinea's Prime Minister James Marape in Wellington today, reaffirming the strong partnership between their countries. The leaders discussed expanding trade opportunities and strengthening security ties. A refreshed Statement of Partnership was signed, outlining a shared vision for the bilateral relationship as the two nations approach 50 years of diplomatic ties.

The statement sets out a plan to achieve practical outcomes through education, public sector support, climate change initiatives, and increased business investment in agriculture and fisheries. Prime Minister Luxon also announced a NZ$1 million investment in institutional linkages to support Papua New Guinea's efforts to strengthen its public sector institutions.

During their visit, the Papua New Guinea delegation will engage in various business and community events across the North Island before departing on 28 March. The partnership is seen as crucial in addressing regional issues and challenges.
