Eight new leaders have been appointed to prominent Māori language entities.
The Minister for Māori Development, Tama Potaka, announced the appointments as part of his efforts to grow accessibility to te reo Māori in homes and communities. The new leaders will bring valuable expertise to their respective entities, including governance, business, broadcasting, and language revitalisation.
Te Mātāwai will be led by Penetaui Kleskovic for three years, while Te Mangai Pāho has appointed Erana Reedy and Tamalene Painting for the same period. Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Māori has reappointed Professor Rawinia Higgins as Chair for 18 months and Te Haumihiata Mason for three years. Jamie Tuuta and Tiwana Tibble have been reappointed to Whakaata Māori for 18 months and three years, respectively. Holly Bennett has also been appointed to the entity for three years.
"These appointments reflect the depth of expertise needed to advance te reo Māori revitalisation," Mr Potaka said. "I want to acknowledge and thank all the outgoing members for their valuable contributions."
