Transport Minister Simeon Brown has announced that all lanes on the Ngāruawāhia section of the Waikato Expressway are now open to traffic, following remedial works and safety improvements.
The project, which took over two years to complete, aimed to bring this section of expressway up to the same standard as neighboring sections. NZTA contractors worked to seal the median area, reshape outside lanes, improve drainage, and apply various pavement treatments. Safety improvements included making side barriers continuous, upgrading some barriers, and widening shoulders.
The completion of these works before Christmas is a welcome relief for motorists who regularly use this transport corridor. Transport Minister Simeon Brown acknowledged the patience of road users and expressed his goal of ensuring safe and quick travel across the Waikato Expressway.
