Attorney-General announces new District Court Judge.
The New Zealand government has appointed Rebecca Guthrie as a District Court Judge, following Attorney-General Judith Collins' announcement today (22 November).
In her illustrious legal career spanning over two decades, Judge Guthrie has accumulated significant experience in various roles. She was admitted to the bar in 1997 after graduating from the University of Canterbury with an LLB and BA degree. Initially working as a solicitor and paralegal in Hastings, she later moved to London in the early 2000s.
Following her return to New Zealand in 2004, Judge Guthrie specialized in criminal law as both defence counsel in Hawke's Bay and senior Crown prosecutor for several firms, including Almao Douch, Hamilton & Elvidge & Partners in Napier. Currently a partner at Hamilton Legal, the Office of the Crown Solicitor in Hamilton, she will be based at the Waitakere District Court.
Judge Guthrie is set to take her oath on 14 December, marking a significant milestone in her esteemed career as a District Court Judge.
