Health Volunteers Honoured Across New Zealand

Seven outstanding individuals and organisations have received recognition in the 2024 Minister of Health Volunteer Awards.

The recipients, aged from 17 to 90 years old, hail from various parts of the country. Their contributions range from leading exercise groups for people with lung conditions to creating a support group for Pasifika people with Parkinson's disease. The winners also include students who help disabled individuals and volunteers who provide mental health and addiction support.

The Minister of Health Dr Shane Reti acknowledged all winners, praising their efforts in supporting patients, staff, and the entire healthcare system. Mental Health Minister Matt Doocey expressed his appreciation for volunteers working in mental health and addiction services, noting the positive impact they have on their communities.

The 2024 awards featured new categories, including Mental Health and Addiction Service, which aligns with the Government's priority to increase support in this area. Winners will be recognised at an event at Parliament early next year.
