Health Minister Unveils Five Key Priorities

New Zealand's Health Minister Simeon Brown has outlined his five key priorities for the country's healthcare system.

At a speech to the BusinessNZ Health Forum in Auckland today, Minister Brown emphasized the need for improved outcomes from the significant funding allocated to health. The Government has committed $16.68 billion of additional funding, with a focus on delivering better results for patients. In contrast to previous approaches that focused on bureaucratic restrictions, the new priorities aim to put patients first and support frontline healthcare workers.

The five key priorities include focusing Health New Zealand on delivering essential services, fixing primary healthcare, reducing emergency department wait times, clearing the elective surgery backlog through private sector partnerships, and investing in health infrastructure. Minister Brown assured that the plan is designed to provide timely and quality care for all New Zealanders, with a commitment to achieve this goal.

Minister Brown's priorities are part of his efforts to transform the health system and ensure it meets the needs of its users. The Government's investment and the Health Minister's plan aim to make significant improvements in healthcare delivery across New Zealand.
