The Government falls short of its target for electric vehicle chargers.
The Government has failed to meet its promise to 'super charge' the EV network by delivering just 292 chargers - less than half of the required 670. Labour energy and climate spokesperson Megan Woods says this is a broken promise, adding to the list of ways the Government undermines progress towards a low-carbon economy.
According to Ms Woods, the National government has missed its own target for installing EV chargers and continues to make decisions that hinder New Zealand's transition to renewable energy. This includes cutting $3 billion from climate initiatives, scrapping the clean car discount, and prioritising destructive sea-bed mining over offshore wind electricity generation.
The Government's decision has been met with criticism, with Ms Woods stating it takes New Zealand backwards in its efforts to reduce emissions. The failure to meet this target raises questions about the government's commitment to a sustainable future for the country.
