The Government's Emissions Reduction Plan (ERP) fails to meet targets.
The plan, which aims to reduce emissions by 1 per cent by 2030, has been criticized for relying on unproven technologies and unrealistic assumptions. Green Party co-leader Chlöe Swarbrick says the Government is "setting us up to fail" and that its approach will not deliver a liveable future.
In contrast, He Ara Anamata, the Green's Emissions Reduction Plan, proposes cutting pollution at the source and reducing emissions from the baseline by 8 per cent by 2030. The plan has been endorsed by outgoing Climate Commissioner Dr Rod Carr as essential for New Zealand's survival.
