Ministers launch second Te Aorerekura Action Plan.
The New Zealand government has launched its second 25-year strategy, Te Aorerekura, aimed at eliminating family violence and sexual violence. The plan was unveiled in Auckland by Minister for the Prevention of Family and Sexual Violence Karen Chhour, alongside Ministers Mark Mitchell and Louise Upston.
Te Aorerekura is designed to achieve intergenerational change and has three key focus areas: improving multi-agency responses to violent incidents, strengthening workforces, and expanding primary prevention. The strategy also emphasizes the importance of collaboration across government agencies to deliver change.
The second Action Plan builds on progress made under the first plan, with a central focus on practical improvements to keep people safe from violence. Minister Chhour stressed that consistent support from central government is crucial for effective responses to violent incidents.
Minister Upston welcomed the second Action Plan, highlighting the importance of a social investment approach in prioritizing investments that deliver positive impact for those most at risk of family violence and sexual violence. The plan aims to accelerate progress on investing and commissioning services known to work in reducing violence.
The government's commitment to addressing family and sexual violence is evident through this second Action Plan, which marks another important milestone in the life of Te Aorerekura.
