Government Unveils Creative Sector Strategy

New strategy aims for increased cultural engagement and economic boost.

The New Zealand Government has released its creative sector strategy, "Amplify," for public consultation. According to Arts Minister Paul Goldsmith, the goal is to increase Kiwis' engagement with culture and creativity while boosting the sector's economic contribution by 2030.

The strategy proposes four key targets: ranking among the top 25 nations in the world for culture and heritage 'soft power,' bringing median income for creative professionals closer to the median wage/salary income, increasing the GDP contribution from the arts and creative sector to at least $20 billion, and engaging more New Zealanders with local arts, culture, and heritage.

To achieve these targets, three strategic pillars have been outlined. These include maximizing impact through a $450 million annual Crown investment, nurturing talent and providing sustainable career opportunities, and reducing barriers to growth by modernizing government regulation to enable cultural sectors to thrive.

Mr. Goldsmith encourages people to read the strategy and share their feedback during the public consultation period. He emphasizes that this is just a draft and welcomes new ideas.
