Government Sacks Employees with Ease

The New Zealand Government has introduced a change to the Employment Relations Act, making it simpler for employers to dismiss staff without due process.

Labour's workplace relations spokesperson Camilla Belich claims Minister of Workplace Relations Brooke van Velden prioritises big business over employees. According to Belich, the alteration will strip workers of their right to file grievances if they're unjustly fired, mistreated, or discriminated against. The change may disproportionately affect part-time and low-income workers.

This move follows previous changes, including reduced sick leave and reinstated 90-day trials. Labour asserts that National and ACT are eroding workers' rights, which have been hard-won by past generations.
