Government Launches Science for Farmers Initiative

Government Launches Science for Farmers Initiative

Agriculture Minister Todd McClay's new programme aims to boost farm productivity.

The 'Science for Farmers' initiative, a collaboration between the Ministry for Primary Industries and key research partners, will be rolled out at agricultural events nationwide. Starting in Dargaville, Wānaka, Feilding, and Kirwee over the next two months, the programme brings leading scientists to share research and innovation with farmers.

Agriculture Minister Todd McClay says the initiative provides detailed information on alternative pasture types, advanced genetics, and on-farm management systems that increase production while meeting environmental obligations. The government aims to lift rural productivity, create jobs, and unlock New Zealand's potential by investing in science and innovation.

"The Government is committed to going for growth," Mr McClay states. "Small steps can make a big difference." By increasing farm productivity through science and research, the initiative seeks to achieve its goal of doubling exports within 10 years. The programme has the potential to put more money into rural New Zealand's pockets by boosting production and innovation.
