Trade Minister Todd McClay invites New Zealanders to share their views on negotiations with India.
The Trade and Investment Minister, Todd McClay, has initiated a public consultation process regarding the Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between New Zealand and India. This move is aimed at gathering input from various stakeholders including businesses, non-governmental organisations and members of the public before the negotiations begin in earnest.
According to Mr. McClay, this consultation will enable them to better inform their decision-making in the early stages of the talks. The submission period closes on 15 April 2025, with all interested parties encouraged to contribute their views.
New Zealand is eyeing significant opportunities for trade and investment expansion through an FTA with India, given its projected status as the world's third-largest economy by 2030. The government aims to double New Zealand's exports by value over the next decade and sees this agreement as a key factor in achieving that goal.
Individuals can provide their feedback on the proposed FTA at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade's (MFAT) website, https://www.mfat.govt.nz/have-your-say, before the deadline.
