ERA Seeks New Members

New appointments sought to fill five vacancies at the ERA.

Workplace Relations and Safety Minister Brooke van Velden has announced a call for new members to join the Employment Relations Authority (ERA). The ERA is an independent body responsible for resolving employment relationship problems and facilitating collective bargaining when issues arise.

According to Ms. van Velden, ERA members play a crucial role in supporting workplace certainty by making sound and reasonable decisions on employment law matters. She encourages candidates with experience in employment law or business to apply, particularly those who can provide a balanced perspective given the current makeup of ERA membership has been predominantly public sector-based.

The Minister notes that having disputes resolved quickly can ease the burden on New Zealand's court system and support thriving and productive workplaces. Applicants will be considered from Christchurch, Wellington, and Auckland, with applications closing on 20 April 2025.

Ms. van Velden aims to restore certainty in workplaces by ensuring the right people are appointed to the ERA. The successful candidates will need to be adept at finding fair and equitable solutions to complex problems.
