Local government practitioner Lindsay McKenzie has been appointed.
Local Government Minister Simeon Brown announced the appointment of Lindsay McKenzie as a Crown Observer to Wellington City Council on November 11. The decision was made in response to significant challenges facing the council, including delivering services and balancing debt obligations.
Mr. Brown stated that appointing Mr. McKenzie was necessary due to the financial and behavioral issues identified under Part 10 of the Local Government Act 2002. Mr. McKenzie's term will commence on November 13, 2024, and is set to conclude on July 31, 2025, or earlier if deemed necessary.
As a seasoned local government professional, Mr. McKenzie brings extensive experience in governance and senior leadership. He previously served as the Chief Executive Officer of Tasman District Council and Gisborne District Council, and has also provided support to Invercargill City Council's governance performance improvement program.
