Cabinet minister visits icy region to see climate impact firsthand.
Climate Change Minister Simon Watts has embarked on a journey to Antarctica to witness the effects of climate change and observe New Zealand's scientific work in the ice. The trip, which began on November 25, aims to give Mr. Watts an intimate understanding of the impacts of climate change on the continent.
During his visit, he will meet with international partners, including the US, and examine some of New Zealand's leading research programs. These efforts are crucial for predicting how changes in Antarctica will influence New Zealand and the world. By collaborating with scientists and other nations, Mr. Watts hopes to gain insight into sea-level rise projections over the coming decades and centuries.
This trip marks the second time a Cabinet Minister has visited Antarctica this term, following Finance Minister Nicola Willis's earlier visit. Mr. Watts is expected to return on November 29.
