Climate Change Chair Gets New Leader

The Climate Change Commission gets a new chair.

Rt Hon Dame Patsy Reddy has been appointed as the new chair of the Climate Change Commission, an independent Crown entity that advises the Government on transitioning to a climate-resilient future. Climate Change Minister Simon Watts made the announcement, praising Dame Patsy's extensive career in law and governance.

Dame Patsy, former Governor-General from 2016 to 2021, brings significant experience to the role. She will take over in February 2025, with Commissioner Lisa Tumahai acting as chair until then. The appointments follow the conclusion of Dr Rod Carr's term and the departure of Catherine Leining and Professor James Renwick.

Minister Watts has also appointed Felicity Underhill and Devon McLean as Commissioners from December 2024 to September 2028. Ms Underhill brings over twenty years of experience in energy industry decarbonization, while Mr McLean's forestry and conservation background will benefit the Commission Board.
