Board Appointed for Te Awamutu Waste Proposal

Board Appointed for Te Awamutu Waste Proposal

A board of inquiry has been established to evaluate the contentious waste-to-energy proposal in Te Awamutu.

Environment Minister Penny Simmonds has announced the appointment of Judge Brian Dwyer as chair of the board, alongside Nicholas Manukau and Myles McCauley. The board will assess public submissions on the proposal, which has sparked significant interest due to concerns about its impact on the environment.

Judge Dwyer brings extensive experience in resource management and judicial processes, having previously led inquiries into high-profile projects such as the Transmission Gully Motorway proposal. He will be joined by Nicholas Manukau, an accredited Resource Management Act hearings commissioner with expertise in fisheries science and management, and Myles McCauley, a seasoned air quality specialist with over 25 years of experience.

The board's role is to evaluate the application thoroughly and in line with the requirements of the Resource Management Act. The assessment process will consider public submissions and conclude once its duties are completed.
