Beef and Lamb Exports Set for Huge Boost

Agriculture Minister Todd McClay forecasts a significant increase in red meat exports.

New Zealand's beef and lamb farmers can expect an extra $1.2 billion in revenue this year due to strong demand, favourable export prices, and new trade opportunities with Europe and the Middle East. Red meat exports are forecast to grow by 13 per cent, with total exports reaching $10.2 billion. Lamb prices have increased by 20 per cent over the last year, while mutton prices have risen by 70 per cent.

The growth is attributed to a diversified trade network, including recent agreements with the European Union and other key markets seeking high-quality, safe, grass-fed food from New Zealand. The Government has pledged to support sheep and beef farmers by reducing red tape and compliance costs, ensuring they can operate on a level playing field.

Mr McClay highlighted the importance of recognising the value of New Zealand's high-quality produce, which is also environmentally friendly and meets climate obligations without compromising farming practices or jobs.
