Recreational hunting and fishing gains a boost in New Zealand.
The Minister for Hunting and Fishing, Todd McClay, has launched the Access Charter to ensure better access for recreational activities on public conservation land. The charter establishes guiding principles for the Department of Conservation (DOC) to provide clear and transparent decisions on public land access.
According to the Minister, the charter aims to make it easier for New Zealanders to engage in hunting and fishing. It guarantees that public conservation land will remain open for recreational use, with limitations only applied rarely. The charter also ensures a common approach to access across all regions.
The Access Charter is expected to benefit 1.2 million people who hunt and fish recreationally each year. As a significant step towards preserving New Zealand's hunting and fishing heritage, the charter promotes uniform rules and guidance nationwide.
