ACC Overhauls Employer Injury Program

ACC Overhauls Employer Injury Program

New updates aim to boost workplace injury rehabilitation.

ACC Minister Scott Simpson announced changes to the Accredited Employers Programme today, designed to improve workplace injury rehabilitation for around one-fifth of New Zealand's workforce. The programme allows large employers to manage their employees' claims in-house and receive a reduction in their work account levy in return.

The updates include enhancements to performance monitoring and claim handling processes. These changes are the first significant revisions to the programme since its inception in 2000. ACC Minister Scott Simpson stated that the programme provides a financial incentive for employers to reduce workplace injuries and support staff to return to independence quickly.

With approximately 130 employers participating, including around 435,000 full-time equivalent employees (around 23% of New Zealand's total FTEs), these changes are expected to ensure employers meet their obligations and provide necessary support to their employees.
