ACC Invests in Safer Manufacturing Sector

Boosting worker safety and economic growth.

The Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) has announced a significant investment in New Zealand's manufacturing sector to reduce workplace injuries and support economic growth. ACC Minister Scott Simpson and Small Business and Manufacturing Minister Chris Penk have welcomed the initiative, citing its potential to enhance workers' health and wellbeing while keeping costs down.

As part of this effort, ACC worked with the Employers and Manufacturers Association to co-design a Harm Reduction Action Plan for Manufacturing in 2024. The plan proposed various solutions aimed at reducing injury incidence and severity. Now, ACC is seeking a supplier to develop and implement evidence-based initiatives based on industry insights and best practices.

The manufacturing sector contributes significantly to New Zealand's economy, accounting for over 60% of exports and employing nearly 230,000 people across 23,000 businesses. However, it has seen an increase in work-related injury rates over the past decade. The total annual ACC claims costs for this sector are over $165 million and growing.

Responses to the tender must be submitted by 12pm on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, through the New Zealand Government Electronic Tender Service (GETS) or procurement@acc.co.nz.
