A total of 41 new trustees have been appointed to community trusts across New Zealand.
According to Associate Finance Minister Shane Jones, the appointees bring a diverse range of skills and expertise, including education, business, healthcare, marketing, sports, governance, law, environmental protection, grant allocation, and community development. The 12 community trusts serve their respective regions from the Far North to the deep south and manage over $3.5 billion in investments.
The new appointees will join existing boards responsible for granting around $100 million to thousands of organisations each year. Mr Jones expressed his gratitude to those accepting the challenge and thanked outgoing trustees for their service. The community trusts are governed by the Community Trusts Act 1999, with terms for appointees lasting four years.
With these appointments, the community trusts aim to build strong and empowered communities throughout New Zealand.
